London Marathon 2010 A big thank you to all the VICTA runners who ran for us in the London Marathon…

altWhen the starting gun fires for April’s London Marathon there will be a lots of different things going through the runners minds. Some may be trying to remember their training; others may be worrying about loo stops, whilst some will be thinking about the people that inspired them to start the great race. Louise Riddell definitely falls into the latter category as she will be running the London Marathon in memory of her daughter, Matilda.

Matilda died unexpectedly in February 2009 aged 3.  Matilda was registered as Blind, however she lived life to the full and nothing fazed her. Every day Matilda faced challenges, however, she always overcame them. Louise is a keen runner and runs 10- 12 miles per week, but would never have dreamt of entering the London Marathon if it was not for Matilda. In her short life she showed everyone that anything is possible.’
Louise will be sparkling in pink glitter and will be running in fairy wings with a picture of her daughter Matilda on her back, as she raises money for Visually Impaired Children Taking Action (VICTA).  Louise chose VICTA to try and raise awareness and hopefully lots of money so children like Matilda can live life to the full despite being visually impaired. Louise said ‘I feel proud to have been Matildas mummy, she has given me so much, so this is for my very special little girl.’
The monies raised by all of the VICTA runners will be spent improving the lives of visually impaired children, through providing grants towards specialist equipment, and through organising events and initiatives that will encourage and equip blind and partially sighted children to reach their full potential.
