February saw a new VICTA online discussion forum launched. The forum is attached to this website and gives users the opportunity to share information and chat. It’s another way that our users can stay in contact with us and each other, in addition to our facebook pages and twitter account. All forum posts will be pre-moderated before they appear in the forum meaning that children too young for face book (face book users should be over 13) and those uncomfortable with using facebook will still have a safe environment in which to be part of the VICTA online community.
The forum is a public forum so anyone can see it without having to log in. This means that parents of VI children looking for information and support will be able to see what’s happening on the forum before joining. With this in mind it is worth remembering to avoid posting personal details in this forum
Our face book pages will remain in place and we continue to welcome the growing number of ‘fans’. The pages will continue to function as a way for VICTA members to follow and comment on what VICTA is up to, however the discussion forum box has now been removed to encourage people to communicate with each other in one specific place (the forum).
A key feature of the Forum is ‘The Kids are all right’ section which is set aside for children to use. We ask adults not to read it so that the children (in particular those under 13) can feel like they have a safe place to chat. This section like the rest of the forum will be pre-moderated with Phil, our administrator embracing his mental rather than physical age to become an honorary child.
