Exciting news! After the amazing success of the Center Parcs Weekend last year, we have managed to secure funding to hold a family weekend again this year. We received detailed feedback from families last year and with this in mind, we have arranged a rather ‘different’ experience for 2010.

The weekend will be focused on allowing your children to have fun independently whilst at the same time, they will meet and share experience with others in the same position as themselves. Parents too, will find that they are able to meet other parents in an informal setting whilst their children enjoy activities. There will be workshops and information sessions for the grown ups, as well as the chance to take part in some of the activities if you would like!
The key facts about the weekend are as follows:
Date: 27th-30th August (that is August Bank Holiday weekend)
Cost: £100 per family
Venue: Little Canada, Isle of Wight
Little Canada is an outdoor activity and adventure centre on the Isle of Wight, usually used in school term time for groups of children and young people. They are now making the venue available to families during the holidays, which is perfect for us! It is a great venue which will offer the children an action packed few days as the centre staff keep them busy with outdoor activities (such as Abseiling, Kayaking and Climbing). The activities will give the youngsters more self confidence and give them the chance to build up friendships with other children who are either VI or have VI siblings. Many of the activities have adaptations for use by disabled children.
Parents will attend workshops and information sessions, we hope to repeat the sessions over the two days so that mums and dads will both have the opportunity to attend. There is also a licensed bar and relaxing area for the parents and we can arrange for adults to take part in the activities if they wish.
Our Director Tracie Tappenden and one of our Trustees Margaret Topliss visited the site recently and were persuaded to have a go on the zip wire! (Tracie said ‘If I can do it. Anyone can!)
The weekend is fully catered with all meals being provided by the Little Canada staff, Tracie said that the lunch they were provided with was simple, fresh and plentiful. Soup, jackets, rolls, cheese, beans, tuna, salad and fruit were all available. The accommodation is very basic, the rooms are in wooden blocks and are mostly made up of bunk beds, however, all rooms have a small en suite bathroom and we will ensure that each family has a room to itself.
VICTA are charging a nominal fee of £100 per family.
As with last year, places are limited (we have space for up to 100 families) and we will be allocating them on a first come first served basis.
