Earn your Young Achievers Create badge at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham!
Join VICTA families at MAC’s ceramic studio where you will learn how to make wheel thrown pottery such as a small bowl or cup. Your tutor will demonstrate the key stages of clay preparation and wheel throwing before you get stuck in yourself. Learn the technique of turning to finish your work ready to be fired. Each participant will aim to produce at least two finished bowls or cylinders. By the end of this course, participants will have learned how to use the equipment in the ceramic studio safely and correctly, and a range of techniques to make a high-quality ceramic piece.
In addition to pottery, families will take part in a unique drumming and music workshop in MAC’s music studio. In this workshop, we will be taught the basics of how to play the drums and create some music! No previous experience is required and materials for both workshops are provided.
This is a great opportunity to try out new skills as a family in a safe and supportive environment. Both activities will be led by instructors from the centre. After the VICTA day has ended, you and your family are free to explore the rest of the Midlands Arts Centre at your leisure.

As part of the day, primary school aged children with a vision impairment will also earn their VICTA Young Achievers Create badge in a day and continue their way to completing their medal at the end of the year. (Siblings will also earn a Super Siblings certificate and pin-badge for being, well… super!). Special personalised Braille certificates for the Young Achievers will follow soon after the activity.
Lunch isn’t provided so please bring a packed lunch, or there is a cafe onsite.
