My Name is Kirsty Miller and I’m raising funds for VICTA by running the 2026 London Marathon as part of a team of three – my brother-in-law Mark, my cousin Colin and myself.
Can you describe the fundraising initiative?
We all passed around some ideas on what would be the best way to start our fundraising – Colin had the idea to host a Halloween party. We held it at our venue so we had no costs and meaning all ticket money raised would go straight to our funds. We raised £1,505 in ticket sales and further to this we asked local businesses to donate raffle prizes – which then generated us a further £1,000 on the night in raffle sales. In total our Halloween event raised £2,625 and a great time was had in the process!
What surprised you?
I was surprised by how generous everyone was on the night, especially after already purchasing tickets. It was a lot of work but such a fun way to help reach our target and I’d love to host another night in the future.
What’s your advice for other team members?
We also had a “bonus ball” on Facebook – with so many people getting organised for Christmas we decided to “sell” 100 numbers at £10 each. One lucky winner would win £500 in vouchers and we’d get £500 to our fundraiser. It’s such an easy way to raise a lot and we managed to sell all our numbers within 24 hours. This will definitely be something we do again before Christmas. I would recommend this idea to others struggling to start their fundraising journey.
We have raised a £4,035 to date. Good luck everyone!
Well done this fantastic joint fundraising team! If you would like any support with your fundraising, drop us an email at fundraising@victa.org.uk.
