VICTA’s sporty summer continued in August with a Beach Volleyball Family Day at Yellowave Beach Sports in Brighton.
Blessed with beautiful sunshine, the VICTA team welcomed eight families for a beach volleyball taster session hosted by the fantastic Yellowave team. Families practised their aces and spikes using bell balls in the sand before having a go with standard volleyballs — and it was clear to see some friendly competition emerging between parents and children!
After working up an appetite, families enjoyed an on-site barbecue provided by Yellowave before heading to their ‘mini beach’ to build sandcastles using buckets shaped like shells, castles and sea creatures. This gave parents a wonderful opportunity to relax and connect with one another while children made new friends and lasting memories.
The afternoon continued with creative activities, including pebble painting, paper plate octopus crafts and lollipops. The day finished with that all-important ice cream — it wouldn’t be a day at the beach without it!
What parents said
“What wonderful staff, who really did their very best to explain how to play. We all had so much fun and would love to do it all again. To all the VICTA staff on the day, you made us feel so welcome. It was great to chat with you all — another great memory for us as a family. We really appreciate all the hard work that went into organising this occasion and the opportunity to connect with other parents so we can support one another through both the good times and the tougher days. Sharing really is caring.”
“It was amazing to ‘work’ and play with other families and learn something new. The BBQ was very tasty — thank you for an amazing day!”

VICTA team returns to Brighton for sighted guide training
After a brilliant experience at Yellowave, we were invited back in December to complete a sighted guide awareness day with more members of the team. We practiced guiding with blindfolds and Sim Specs and explored VI accessible sport equipment. It was fantastic to see everyone so engaged and growing their team’s awareness to help future visits from vision impaired guests. We look forward to working together in the future!
