Join us for a virtual workshop covering the proposed changes to education and SEND, so you can feel well-equipped to ensure you child’s educational needs are being met .
We are pleased to welcome Laura Hughes from MoorVision to deliver our next education based session. Laura is CEO or MoorVision, a charity supporting the families of children and young people with vision impairment across Devon and Cornwall. She is also the parent of a now grown-up daughter with vision impairment and has been an active member and volunteer with VICTA for 20 years.
Things are always changing in education and SEND provision. With political parties and leaders coming and going, an ongoing cycle of education proposals and reforms, and a new SEND White Paper expected, it can be difficult for families to understand what the changes mean — and, more importantly, what they could mean for their child’s education and support.
This workshop is aimed specifically at parents and carers of children and young people who currently have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as those whose child is likely to require or secure an EHCP in the future during their pre-16 education. This session will help you understand the current landscape and prepare for what may lie ahead.
We will begin by recapping the current SEND and EHCP system, including what families should expect from schools, local authorities and other professionals, and the rights and protections that currently apply to children and young people with SEND.
We will then explore some of the recent, proposed, and anticipated changes to education and SEND, considering how these developments could affect children with additional needs, EHCP processes, provision and outcomes. We will separate what is currently in place from what has been proposed or may change, so that you can make informed decisions without being overwhelmed by speculation or uncertainty.
By the end of the workshop, you should have a clearer understanding of:
- The current EHCP and SEND landscape and how it applies to your child.
- What recent and proposed changes could mean for children and young people with SEND.
- What to consider if your child does not yet have an EHCP but may need one in the future.
- The key things to put in place during your child’s pre-16 education to protect and strengthen their support.
- How to prepare for future transitions, reviews and changes in provision.
- Practical steps you can take now to ensure your child’s needs, support and outcomes remain at the heart of their education.
Join us to make sense of the changes, understand your child’s current rights and support, and learn how to futureproof their education.
