Join VICTA and the London Institute of Photography in vibrant Shoreditch, East London, an area now extremely popular with London’s edgy and artistic crowd, to learn how to take creative photographs in your own signature style.

What is the course about?

You will be inspired by professional photographers at the LIoP to explore the theme of ‘Self Portrait – a portrait of the self’ and ‘Perception’. You’ll learn how to create a series of photographs inspired by the constantly changing street art at Brick Lane, as well as conducting your own still life shoot on location in the studio – The Truman Brewery, a former brewery transformed into a creative hub. The second stage of the course will take you through the process of post-production and how to make your photos print ready.

What will the course cover?

You will have the opportunity to use your own camera, or a point-and-shoot-camera provided by LIoP. Themes discussed on the workshop are focussing and composition, exposure and creative techniques like light painting and working with reflections.

On the second day of the workshop, you will learn to edit your images in Adobe Lightroom to develop and apply your own signature style to the images produced during the workshop. You will have the chance for a 20min 1:1 session with a professional photographer who will be able to give personalised feedback and advise.

What else can I expect?

Our hotel is in a great location, close to The Old Truman Brewery and Spitalfields Market. When not immersed in the camera you will explore the culture and atmosphere that London has to offer. From its many tourist sights to exploring a choice of international cuisine’s.

Within the cost of the course, you will take home a printed banner displaying your fabulous photos. Plus, you will gain the Arts Award Explore qualification – an entry level 3 award, administered by VICTA.

Please note that you must be 25 or under to qualify for the Arts Award however you can still join this course if you are outside of this age bracket.

Notes

Accommodation with breakfast is included as part of this activity package. You will need additional budget for lunch and dinner as well as any other refreshments, souvenirs and the odd tube fare for when we are exploring the city.
