Celebrate the wonder of Braille through creativity with the VICTA Braille Art Competition

Do you have an interest in tactile art? Do you think you can impress the VICTA team with your creative flair? Then what are you waiting for?

To mark Louis Braille’s birthday on 4 January, we celebrate #WorldBrailleDay to honour the Braille code which has made written literacy accessible for individuals with a vision impairment for 200 years. The Braille Art Competition is the perfect way to shine a light on Braille and its importance to the vision impaired community. You can be part of that celebration!

The VICTA Braille Art Competition has two categories to chose from for 2026:

5 children display their name in braille - there are biscuits, beads, toy potion bottles, pom-poms and stickers.

Category 1 – Braille your name!

Vision impaired children, aged 0 to 9 years, are invited to display their name in Braille in the most creative way possible. You can be as creative as you like by using plush toys, mugs, candles or even people, the possibilities are endless.

Once you have completed your creation, parents/carers will need to take a photograph and email your entry to activities@victa.org.uk. Please send your photo as high resolution as possible and as a jpeg format. You can also post the finished artwork (if you can!) to:

VICTA, Braille Art Competition, Challenge House, Sherwood Drive, Bletchley, MK3 6DP.

The prize:

  • 1st place will receive a £40 Hobbycraft voucher
  • 2nd place will receive a £20 Hobbycraft voucher
  • Chosen finalists will be displayed in our online gallery

Terms and conditions:

  • This category is open to children who are registered or are registrable blind or partially sighted aged between 0 and 9 years on 31 January 2026
  • Entrants must be residents of the United Kingdom
  • The entries will be judged by VICTA staff & VICTA Patron, Clarke Reynolds. The judge’s decision will be final

  • The competition closes at 5pm on 31 January 2026

Category 2 – Clarke’s Challenge

There are two age categories for this challenge – 0 to 13 years and 14 to 29 years, with prizes for each age group!

For the second year running, we are delighted to announce that VICTA Patron, Clarke Reynolds, now Mr. Dot, is challenging you to create a piece of Braille Art inspired by his newly released children’s book, Mr Dot and His Magical White Cane Adventures.

To find out more about Clarke’s challenge, please click on the video below:

Clarke would like you to transport yourself to somewhere different – take yourself on a magical adventure, just like Mr Dot – Have you travelled to the prehistoric era? Are you on a mystery bus tour? Are you on a super space adventure?!
