Know your child’s rights. Understand your options. Feel more confident navigating the EHCP process.
Are you a parent or carer of a blind or visually impaired child and looking for guidance on Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)?
Join Laura Hughes from MoorVision for an informative online workshop designed to help parents understand the EHCP process, know what support their child may be entitled to, and learn what steps to take if things don’t go to plan.
Laura is CEO or MoorVision, a charity supporting the families of children and young people with vision impairment across Devon and Cornwall. She is also the parent of a now grown-up daughter with vision impairment and has been an active member and volunteer with VICTA for 20 years.
What will the workshop cover?
- SEND support vs EHCPs – understanding the difference between school-based Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) support and an Education, Health and Care Plan.
- Eligibility and applications – who may be entitled to an EHCP and how to apply for an assessment.
- What makes a good EHCP? – understanding what a good plan should include to meet your child’s individual needs.
- Understanding your right to appeal – what you can do if:
- Your request for an EHCP assessment is refused, or an EHCP is not issued.
- Your request to amend an existing EHCP is refused.
- Your child’s EHCP is ceased.
- When support isn’t delivered – what steps you can take if the provision specified in your child’s EHCP is not being provided.
