Looking down into reflections formed on a puddle on a London road. You can see the textures of the road and pavement curb and there is an oily texture to the water. Reflected in the water is a bright blue sky and the roof and chimney of a house. To contrast this urban landscape, a green leaf is floating on the water.

Vanitas photo – Lucy’s vanitas photo features objects that reflect her personality staged in a formal setting to give the effect of an old painting. Lucy’s photo features an open book with Dungeons and Dragons gaming dice falling down the middle of it. They are sitting in a metal bowl with bright yellow flowers carefully arranged around them. Lucy was able to find these flowers from a seller during her photography walk in London. In front of the bowl is a metal butterfly clasp.

In front of a black background there is an outreached hand coming in from the right side of the image. The fist of the hand has light blue nail polish and is holding onto the bottom of stems of a bouquet of peach coloured roses. The rose buds are slightly blurred and there is a gold reflection of light coming of them. In the top right corner there is also a  light strip which has created a white mark on the image.

Photograph by Matthew Clark

Photo description
This photo follows Matthew’s theme of people with vision impairments navigating the city. The photo shows a man (Matthew) standing on the raised pavement dots that indicate to people that they are approaching a crossing. The right-hand side captures just his legs and feet. The left-hand side shows the backdrop of the city, people and cars bustling about amid striking buildings of metal and glass.

I took the photograph of the graffiti face so I could see an outline of myself within the photo.

During the post production I wanted to bring out the contrast of the colours even more so I could see the outlines of the face, the eyes, the eyebrows and nose. I wanted to pick out features that describe my face and wanted to try and interpretative the face so it looks kind of like mine. I felt that having a reflection of a face within a photograph would be cool.

I especially like the colour yellow which is at the bottom of the face and I like the colour of green that brings out the eyes within the face. I also like the red on its nose and red with on its forehead. I wanted to bring out more contrast throughout the photo so I could pick out the features of the face.

Ruqaiya’s guide dog Bertie has his nose right up to the camera to the point that his face looks almost distorted. The contrast in the colours has been maximised bringing out all of the colours and textures in his nose to extremes – there are bright blue textures on top and reds/pinks underneath. The effect has also brought out the bright blue under the dog’s eyes so that it almost looks as if he is wearing neon blue eyeliner. It is a very playful shot that brings out Bertie’s character.
