Phillipa’s Karaoke Quiz Night

My name is Phillipa, I am 32 and I’m running the 2026 London Marathon for VICTA. It will be my first ever marathon! I have worked with VI children in the past and seen how hard it can be for them to access everyday things, especially within the education system.

Can you describe the fundraising initiative?

I reached out to my son’s football team to see if I could host a charity event at the club free of charge – they were more than welcome to help!

I decided on a quiz and karaoke evening, as I knew a lot of my friends and family would be interested in this and we’d all have a great night.

I advertised for weeks on end through my social media, the club’s social media and through WhatsApp channels. At first, it was a real struggle to get people to buy tickets and I was starting to worry, but as the weeks went by and the date came closer, I was getting messages from people I didn’t even know asking to buy tickets!

I was also incredibly lucky to manage to get my hands on some amazing raffle prizes. I had 20 raffle prizes for the evening, prizes included tattoo vouchers, bistro vouchers and tickets for my local football team Huddersfield Town.

How much did you raise?

The ticket price for the evening was £10 and then I charged £5 per raffle strip. All together I raised £905 from ticket sales and raffle sales in one evening.

What surprised you?

I was surprised at how generous people were when donating prizes. I didn’t need to beg for any of the prizes, local businesses were so willing to donate to such a worthy cause.

Would you do organise this again?

I would 100% organise this again! Everybody had such an amazing night, it could not have gone any better!

What’s your advice for other team members?

Be confident when arranging nights like this and don’t be shy or embarrassed about asking around for prizes and for sharing on social media!

I absolutely would recommend this to others, you can have such a brilliant night whilst raising a lot of money!
