Hi! My name is Lucia and I will be running the London Marathon 2026 for VICTA! Two years ago I set up Bristol Run Club which has grown into the most amazing community and I am so excited to be fundraising for VICTA over the next couple of months through our community.
Can you describe the event / fundraising initiative?
I wanted to come up with fun, community-focused ways to raise money through the run club, since it’s a great platform to reach people and make a positive impact.
Every year we host a Halloween run, which is very popular and our runners love to get involved so I decided to turn this year’s Halloween run into a charity event for VICTA. Every runner who wanted to take part paid £2 for entry into our “Best Dressed” competition.
We are lucky to work closely with lots of brands and local businesses in Bristol so I arranged for some prizes for the incredible costumes.
How much did you raise?
We raised £112 for VICTA which is amazing for a Thursday evening run!
What surprised you?
It surprised me that so many people got involved and bought a ticket! Some costumes completely surprised me such as one runner who ran the whole 5km with a skeleton on his back!
Would you organise this type of event again?
I would 100% organise an event like this again in the future and plan on doing the same for Easter!
What’s your advice for other team members?
Don’t be discouraged from organising a fundraiser because you are worried no one will show up or donate. Even a small donation makes a difference!
You gain so much experience, meet great people and have so much fun that it is always worth it! You may be surprised by the support you get – so never say never!
Use a simple ticket platform such as Eventbrite. It is very easy to use and you can easily manage participants and add on an extra donation option on top of the ticket if anyone wanted to donate more. Make sure to check that the purchaser absorbs the Eventbrite fee’s so this doesn’t come out of your donations!
Would you recommend it to others?
Definitely! I would really recommend doing a fun event like this to the other runners on the VICTA team! Keeping the entry fee as low as £2 encouraged lots of people to take part and I was surprised by how many people chose to contribute more!
Well done to Lucia for bringing her community together to run for a great cause! If you would like any support with your fundraising, drop us an email at fundraising@victa.org.uk.
