I’m Adele from Shropshire and this will be my first ever Marathon!

I’m excited, nervous and happy all at once going into serious training now. We have a 2-year-old yellow Labrador called Harry. He is a gorgeous boy who joins me on shorter runs. I previously worked as a makeup artist. I love how makeup can transform someone’s mood or confidence.

Our youngest daughter suffered a brain injury at birth and we faced an extremely worrying time not knowing whether she would have vision, speech or even full mobility.  Thankfully she has made a remarkable recovery. She was discharged from ophthalmology last year aged five.  Her vision, through patching and wearing glasses, has improved dramatically. Knowing that we could have faced a different future and possibly required VICTA’s help made it an easy choice. Running the London Marathon has always been a dream of mine and running for VICTA will be an honour.

Can you describe the event / fundraising initiative?

I hosted a Paint & Sip event at my local village hall on the 20th December. I had recently attended one of these events and thought what a wonderful way to get people together whilst fundraising. I reached out to the artist running the original event, who amazingly is also called Adele!? I asked if she would be willing to host a private event for me which she came straight back and said yes. It was a ticketed event and part of the ticket price was donated back to me. I held a raffle on the night and had a bar. I raised £500 on the night and have had lots of messages from people asking when the next one is.

What surprised you?

Feedback from friends that attended was how relaxing and therapeutic it felt to sit, chat, sip and paint.

Would you do organise this type of event again?

I would 100% recommend this type of event, it could be a blindfolded event or partnered where one person is blindfolded and the other directs – lots of options to make it fun.

Cheers to Adele on such an artistically stunning event! If you would like any help with your fundraising for VICTA or have a story to share, drop us an email at fundraising@victa.org.uk.
