My VICTA journey
Lucy Ashton, aged 22
My name is Lucy Ashton and I am 22 years old. I started my VICTA journey when I was 16 years old. I was shy and nervous about going on a trip to Romania with 12 other people I didn’t know. I can now say that the trip to Romania with VICTA changed my life. With the support from the VICTA volunteers and my peers, I learnt so much about myself and my visual impairment.
Throughout school I really struggled and felt as though I never accepted my visual impairment as it became a hassle for others and I didn’t receive half the support and understanding I got from VICTA. My first VICTA trip made me realise that it’s OK to have a visual impairment and it’s a part of who I am. From then on I have participated in several trips, a Mediterranean cruise, Sicily, Iceland and my next adventure with VICTA is Thailand! I have met some incredible people on these trips and made friends for life. I have had some once in a lifetime experiences and I cannot thank VICTA enough for what they do and have done for me.
