This past summer VICTA held its annual Summer Camp for vision impaired 14 to 17 year olds at Dearne Valley activity centre near Doncaster.
We got up to so much during our stay, we earned qualifications, played VI sports and went sledging!

“We are so thrilled at how much Joseph enjoyed the camp this year. He is talking a lot about how much he is missing camp and his new friends! Thank you so much to both of you and your team/volunteers.”- VICTA Parent
In addition to a wonderful group of campers, Seren from Otters with Pockets led a brilliant social media session, giving us hands-on insight into filming, positioning and creating engaging content. Thanks to her workshop, all participants were able to achieve an Arts Award Discover.
Jonathan from Blind in Business delivered an inspiring session on the importance of self-advocacy, and later returned with several of his fellow England VI rugby teammates to introduce us to the fast-paced world of VI Rugby.
Everyone also achieved a Go Lead certificate after successfully completing the Leadership Skills Foundation’s Go Lead programme, where we explored what makes an effective and confident leader.
Kathryn from Goalball UK then guided us through their School Leaders course, teaching us how to deliver a goalball session and pass on the fundamentals of the game. Between these fantastic programmes, we still found time for plenty of adventure — indoor climbing, soaring along the high ropes, taking flight down the zip wire, raft building, dancing at our silent disco, and ending evenings around the campfire with marshmallows and hot chocolate. It was an incredible week, and we’re already counting down the days until next year’s Camp!

“Jessica had an amazing time at camp. She made lots of new friends and loved seeing her old friends from last year. Since coming home she has continued chatting to her friends on FaceTime and on the phone. I’d like to say a huge thank you all at VICTA and the volunteers who made it all possible. Jessica is already talking about going again next year! ”- VICTA Parent
“Josh tells me he is having a blast! Thank you SO much!” -VICTA Parent
