VICTA runner Stephen Porter runs his own events company, so is in the know when it comes to hosting a great night and raising funds for charity!
His recent Disco Bingo night raised an incredible amount for VICTA. A great example of how one great event can smash your London Marathon fundraising total. Keen to help out his fellow #TeamVICTA team mates, Stephen shares his top tips for hosting a successful night…

Room hire
Try to get a room for free on the provision that you intend to fill it with people who’ll be spending at the bar. This way the venue does well from bar sales and you don’t have to start your fundraising event by paying out for a space.
Find a product/show that sells
I’ve ran the London Marathon 4 times now. (Three for VICTA!). The nights I’ve done to help to fundraise have been comedy nights, bingo nights and quiz nights. Ideally, you don’t want really big overheads before you’ve even started to raise funds so take this into account when considering what event to hold.
Will you need prizes for your night?
Explain to local businesses that you’re running the London Marathon and ask if they’d be willing to donate a prize for the night and that you’ll give them a thank you mention on at the show, on your poster etc. Local restaurants and hair salons can be very good for this.
Raffle! Raffle! Raffle!
Whatever your fundraising event is make sure you hold a raffle on the night as it’s always a great way to raise extra funds.
