The latest trip under the VICTA belt took the 18-29s to our very own capital, the great City of London. Our weekend started with an activity to please the adrenalin junkies among the group, as we climbed over an iconic sight of the London skyline – the O2. The weather was against us and it felt at times that the wind could’ve picked us all up and blown us across London, Mary Poppins style. However, the adverse weather just made the completion of the challenge feel even more rewarding, as every member of the group managed to finish the climb; except Volley the guide dog who was patiently waiting at the other side.

Our hotel was situated along the bustling South Bank, so in the evening we enjoyed a walk along the river and past the London Eye. A tasty evening meal gave the group a chance to get to know each other, have fun and unwind.

The next morning we were up early to travel to the Tower of London. A walk over Westminster Bridge past the Houses of Parliament gave the perfect photo opportunity. The Tower itself was a great experience for the whole group. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable and great at describing the crown jewels and other historical artefacts on display. The artillery room gave some hands on experiences of cannons and cannon balls! After lunch, we had a pleasant journey down the Thames on the River Taxi, followed by some much needed relaxation time at the hotel, before heading out for dinner.

Our final morning saw us enjoying our own private Duck Tour of London. The bus took us around the main landmarks of the city, and our guide was full of interesting facts that none of us knew about London and its buildings. The bus then became a boat, and we had a journey down the Thames, past James Bond’s hang out, MI6.

Once we were back on dry land, it was time for lunch and then sadly it was time to say goodbye. Everyone had a great time on the trip, and I think it’s safe to say we all learnt a little bit about our beloved capital.
